Vintage Chophouse: Two Rooms, One Serious Grill
Vintage is really two restaurants wearing one name: a white-linen chophouse where dry-aged beef gets the full ceremony, and a tavern where the same kitchen feeds a livelier crowd over live jazz. Since 2003 this Beltline double act has let Calgary choose its own volume — and either way, the steak arrives correct.
The Concept
Two decades in one location is an eternity in this city’s restaurant scene, and Vintage has spent them polishing a single idea: the classic North American chophouse, executed without shortcuts. Beef is the backbone — dry-aged cuts up to Wagyu territory — while the cellar holds more than six hundred labels and has carried a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence for years on end.
What to Order
The dry-aged prime ribeye is the house thesis: funkier, deeper, beefier than its wet-aged cousins. Wagyu appears for the committed, classic chophouse sides — creamed spinach, potatoes several ways — do their supporting work, and seafood starters keep the table balanced. In the tavern, the same beef pedigree slips into more casual formats, best enjoyed during the generous weekday happy hour.
The Space
Exposed brick against crisp white linen, hewn oak accents, deep studded booths that swallow you for the evening — the dining room plays timeless rather than trendy. The tavern side loosens its collar: a proper bar, warmer noise, and live jazz and blues rolling through on weekends. Same kitchen, two moods.
Who It’s For
Steak purists who care about aging programs, jazz-and-a-burger tavern loyalists, business dinners in the booths — and anyone hedging between fancy and fun.
Good to Know
Do I need a reservation? For the dining room on weekends, yes; the tavern is friendlier to walk-ins.
When is the live music? Jazz and blues acts play the tavern on weekend evenings.
Is there a happy hour? Weekday afternoons — one of the better steakhouse happy hours in the city.
What separates the two rooms? Same kitchen; the chophouse is linen-and-quiet, the tavern is bar-and-band.
How deep is the wine list? Six hundred labels and counting, with sommelier-level guidance available.

Absolutely stunning — the best steak we've ever had, with wagyu/Alberta beef. Wonderful service, they took the time to explain every aspect. All the food was very tasty. It's a luxury worth paying for such a privilege.
